Turns out, “just looking” doesn’t pay the bills

Hey Reader,

I hate shopping for clothes online. But I also hate shopping in person.

Here’s why: the minute I touch a hanger, someone’s in my face.

“How’s it going?”

“Can I start a fitting room?”

“Need a different size?”

“Want me to put that up front for you?”

It’s a lot.

But I get it. It’s not enough to get people through the door. You’ve got to guide them toward the sale.

And while I don’t want to be that overly eager sales associate, I do want my website to help people take action.

That’s what conversion optimization is all about: making your website easier to engage with, so more visitors turn into leads, clients, and customers.

And here’s what most people miss: those clicks and actions? They don’t just help your business.

They help your SEO.

Because Google is watching what happens after someone lands on your site.

Clicks, scrolls, and time on page help the algorithm gauge things like helpfulness.

And that means: what today’s visitor does can influence what future searchers see.

So if you’ve been working to get found on Google, but conversions feel like crickets, this is for you:

👉🏼 SEO and Conversion Optimization: How to Get the Most Value From Your Hard-Earned Traffic

You don’t need to be the person hovering by the fitting room.

But your website does need to guide people toward a next step.

Not pushy. Just purposeful.

Oh hey Reader-I’ve had my head down for the last two months, living through the busiest quarter of my business so far. The kind of busy I’m grateful for, even if I’m slightly cross-eyed from staring at websites all day.And when I look at websites in bulk, patterns start popping out the way they did in those old Magic Eye puzzles. Relax your eyes, lean back a little, and boom: there it is. This quarter, the same issues kept showing up again and again. So after a week of being clobbered with...

Oh hey Reader, You know sucks? You can be excellent at what you do, genuinely excellent, and still get passed over online. Not because your work isn’t strong. Not because you don’t have the experience. But because search engines and AI tools can’t see what humans see. If you’ve ever watched someone with half your skill show up first, and not because they’re better, but because their website makes things clearer to search engines, you know the frustration. The reality is, some experts have the...

Oh hey Reader-I love a good police procedural. (All-time fave: Law & Order SVU. Recently watched: Dept Q. Currently binging: High Potential.) And there’s this moment I observe popping up more and more often: the detectives run a background check, and someone says:“This guy has no digital footprint.”Cue the dramatic music. Because in today’s world, that’s suspicious.Think about it: these days, if you sneeze, there’s a record of it somewhere online. We expect to see a trail: photos, social...
